Renée Shilmover is a certified and registered Occupational Therapist. She graduated with an Honour Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from Queen's University in 2002 (This was prior to the MscOT program being offered) and a Bachelor of Science (Biology) Degree from Western in 1999.

Bringing a wealth of practical experience working with children, Renée was employed for 12 years with Alberta Health Services. She began her career providing Occupational Therapy for the adults population in the brain trauma and orthopaedics units at Foothills, Rockyview and Peter Lougheed Hospitals. In 2004 Renée progressed to working with children in various clinics at the Alberta Children Hospital; predominantly seeing children in their schools through the Regional School Health program. She has been running her private Occupational Therapy practice since 2012. Prior to moving to Calgary, Renée grew up in Montreal and is fully bilingual in English and French.

Renée's love for hands-on Occupational Therapy has resulted in her creating her own practice, Kids OT Calgary, where she can develop treatment programs to meet each clients' individual needs. Through her passion for Occupational Therapy and meeting children's needs she exhibits high energy and compassion to each individual client. Renée's commitment to each client has resulted in multiple referrals and contracts at preschools and private schools.

Renée is also a married mom actively raising 3 fun and silly boys. One of her sons' has special needs and one of them is gifted and spirited, and therefore Renée fully understands some of the challenges to parenting and hopes to make the journey easier for others!

Kids OT Calgary provides assessment, treatment, consultation, and education of:

fine motor skills – hand skills (buttons, zippers, shoelaces), toileting, handling classroom tools (pencils, scissors), printing, keyboarding, etc
gross motor skills and coordination development – running, hopping, climbing, balance, body awareness
motor planning (learning new motor skills such as skipping, tying shoelaces, completing jumping jacks, etc)
visual motor skills – using the eyes to direct hand movement (copying from the board, catching a ball, etc)
visual perception skills – understanding what the eyes are seeing (discrimination of size and shape, visual memory), etc
sensory processing skills – filtering and understanding sensations of movement, touch, balance, vision, oral, and hearing, etc
school skills – following directions, problem solving, awareness, attention, focus, writing, organization, etc
social skills
selfcare (dressing, bathing, sleeping, toileting)

Occupational therapy services of this type may be appropriate for children with or without diagnosed learning disabilities, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and developmental delays.
